The rumor mills are churning! Three accomplished singers of Filipino roots are said to be considered for the lead role of Kim in the upcoming movie adaptation of the play "Miss Saigon" — Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Charice Pempengco, and Jessica Sanchez.
The role of Kim in the broadway musical play "Miss Saigon" was originally portrayed by “Pride of the Philippines” Lea Salonga in 1991. She won several awards for her performance: the Olivier, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics and Theatre World.
Renowned entertainment blogger Perez Hilton said the "Miss Saigon" movie will be directed by Lee Daniels.
"Miss Saigon" is a tale about the tragic love story between an American soldier and Vietnamese bar girl before the fall of Saigon in 1975.
Aside from Salonga, the other Filipinos who previously played the role of Kim are Joanna Ampil, Ima Castro, Jamie Rivera, and Monique Wilson.
In an interview with GMA newscast "24-Oras" reporter Lhar Santiago on July 2, Salonga shared her thoughts on Sanchez possibly taking on the role of Kim.
“If she’s the one that they’ve chosen or if she’s somebody in serious consideration then that’s a good thing [be]cause I mean we all know she’s talented, we all know she’s quite beautiful,” Salonga said.
Filipino-American-Mexican Sanchez, 16, was the 1st runner-up in this year's Season 11 of the singing reality show "American Idol."
Aside from having been reported to be working on her album, Sanchez has already performed at several major events, including the boxing fight of Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley Jr. in June.
Meanwhile, on Twitter, some people also expressed there thoughts on the possibility of Sanchez portraying Kim.

Meanwhile, Filipino-American ‘Godspell’ star Perez De Tagle is also said to be considered for the role of Kim, a report of the entertainment site Just Jared Jr said.
For her role in the Broadway musical "Godspell," Perez de Tagle won Best Featured Actress in a Musical in the 10th Annual BroadwayWorld.com Awards.
California-born De Tagle, 21, won against 28 other actresses.
Known as “Wengky” to family and friends, De Tagle is the granddaughter of “Reyna ng Kundiman” Sylvia La Torre.
De Tagle is the daughter of Archie Perez de Tagle, a former TV personality, and Evelyn Enriquez.
Aside from Perez de Tagle and Sanchez, the others who are rumored to be considered for the role of Kim are international singer Charice Pempengco and "American Idol" Season 10 top 11 contender Thia Megia. - VVP, GMA News
