Jessica Sanchez Vs. Charice: Who Will Get The Kim Role In ‘Miss Saigon?’

There are rumours spreading that 'American Idol' runner up, Jessica Sanchez, is one of the talents eyed to do the lead role of Kim for a 'Miss Saigon' movie.
The popular adaption of 'Madame Butterfly' is a sad love story between a Vietnamese whore and an American soldier. Even if Sanchez has no training on acting, she has received high recommendations already from its long time and former lead star, Lea Salonga.
"If she's the one that they've chosen, or she's somebody in serious consideration, then that's a good thing. We all know she's talented, we all know she's actually quite beautiful," she said in one interview.
Another Filipino talent and belter is also rumoured to land for the part - Charice. This young singer first gained the attention of global audiences after having discovered by entertainment icons David Foster and Oprah.
Charice then had a series of world class tours for an album plus appearances in various projects that are all prestigious like 'Glee' where she played the role of Sunshine Corazon. She is also all set to be seen in a Hollywood film, 'Here Comes The Boom,' where she will be alongside actors such as Salma Hayek.
Who Will Make A Better Kim?
Lea Salonga won numerous awards for her portrayal in its musical play way back in 1991. Among the prestigious accolades she received include a Tony, an Oliver, Drama Desk, Theatre World and another from Outer Critics.
And now that it turn into a movie, many are vying for the top spot. Both Sanchez and Charice are capable of singing the classic songs from the adaptation since the two are considered to be power belters. Acting-wise, Charice has more experience after having had the chance to do some roles on TV and film.
But when it comes to the physical looks that will complete the entire persona of Kim's character, many are saying Sanchez is the more ideal choice. On another note, they both can pass for the Asian look, but with the new image that Charice is portraying lately, it could be the reason of many why the majority is choosing the 'American Idol' finalist rather than the Foster discovery.
