MANILA, Philippines – The first season of singing reality competition “X Factor Philippines” has finally named its top 20 contestants, among them a newly formed all-female group aptly named the Lucky Girls.

The Lucky Girls – composed of Alyssa Quijano, Auriette Divina, Monique Lualhati, Katrina Velarde, Jhelsea Flores and Ashley Campbell – were originally part of the Girls category as solo performers. After the 19 finalists had been announced, judges Pilita Corrales, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano and Charice Pempengco had the six called back on stage to offer them the chance of forming a group that will round up the Group category.

“This is great. Kanina naka-linya kayo, it was very hard to tell you that lima lang talaga ang pwede. You were the hardest category (Girls),” Valenciano told the girls.

"This is great. Earlier when you were in the lineup, it was very hard to tell that only 5 will make it. You were the hardest category (Girls)," Valenciano told the girls.

Other equally fortunate crooners who made the cut were crowd favorites KZ Tandingan, who made waves for her jazzy rendition of the classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow;” Modesto Taran, whose rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” made Pempengco turn emotional after it reminded her of her late father; and fashion stylist Paolo Castro, who wowed the audience with his performance of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.”

On the other hand, early favorites including Jeffrey “Osang” Soliven and Jordan Bautista failed to make it to the top 20. Osang caused a stir with his powerful performance of Drowning Pool’s “Bodies,” while Bautista – brother of popular balladeer Christian Bautista – performed a version of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”

“X Factor Philippines” will air its Judges Home Visit episode next week, where the categories assigned to each a judge/mentor will finally be revealed (Boys, Girls, Over 25s and Groups). The 12 finalists (three per group) that will qualify for the live shows will be determined in this episode.
