MANILA, Philippines -- Concert King Martin Nievera has waded in on controversial voting last Sunday on "The X Factor Philippines," which led to the elimination of versatile singer Mark Mabasa from the competition.
Several people lambasted mentor-judge Charice for voting to eliminate Mabasa from the ABS-CBN talent search over boy band Take-Off.
Another judge, Gary Valenciano, was also criticized for giving all positive comments during the Top 11 performance show last Saturday.
Nievera said "X Factor" viewers and the fans of the finalists should do their share to make sure that their idols stay in the competition by casting their votes.
"You need to vote for your fave or he or she or they will end up in the bottom two. The less kampante will see their faves week after week!
"Mark and Take-Off should have never been against each other in the bottom two but because no one ever thought they would be down there, look now.
"This is what happens when you are too sure of your fave and do nothing about it. When it gets to the bottom two, we have to stand behind our children," he said in a series of tweets.
Nievera also said the finalists who are expected to go home early have stayed in the competition because their fans are texting for them, allowing them to continue their journey on the show.
"The ones most likely not to go forward are going forward because their fans are texting hard. The fans of the most likely to go froward should too," Nievera said.
Also on Twitter, Valenciano defended Charice for voting against Mabasa, saying all the judges were torn.
Charice's vote to eliminate Mabasa led to a split decision among the judges. Two of the judges, Nievera and Pilita Corrales, voted to boot out Take-Off, while Valenciano and Charice chose Mabasa.
In the end, Mabasa was removed after garnering fewer votes.
